Brown-Bagging Lunch Has Just As Many Drawbacks As Benefits

There are many reasons why people would go through the trouble of packing a lunch every single day. Some are trying to cut back on the take-out and fast food and watching their figure.  Others may have dietary considerations, and find it easier to control what they eat by making it themselves.  Still others do it for the simple cost savings of purchasing groceries versus prepared meals each afternoon. Personally, I do it because I have a preference for the way my food comes out when I make it as opposed to the options near my office. Plus, I can eat it whenever I want and don’t have to worry about when the restaurant will open or how crowded it will be. But, there are always downsides that many people don’t think of until it is too late.

What, You’re Too Cool To Save Some Money?

Ok, so maybe you are just that damn special and cool that you don’t need to think about saving money.  Maybe whenever you approach a door, a red carpet rolls out for you and photographers appear to document your arrival. Perhaps trumpets blare and crowds part as you approach entrances. Or maybe, just maybe, you’re so vane and image-conscious that you dare not allow anyone to catch you handing anyone a coupon–whether it be a waiter/waitress, supermarket cashier, retail clerk, anybody. The Best Money Advice I Ever Received

Reading personal finance blogs, I get a sense of an overall shift toward frugality among many of the writers and commentators (yeah, I’m good with the obvious).  But, as with anything in life there are exceptions, such as “No Point Making Money If You Don’t Spend Your Money” which I read over at the Financial Samurai.  It’s nice to know that there are still people out there who understand that you work hard to make a good life for yourself, and that you should get to enjoy some of the benefits of that hard work while you still can.  That’s not to say, and I would never say that saving for the future is not important, because it is extremely important.  But it is also important to create some sort of balance in life, and that is where the best piece of financial advice I have ever been given comes in.
