My 7 Links: Finally Getting It Done

My 7 Links ProjectTripbase started a little trend with the start of My 7 Links.  The object of the meme was to “unite bloggers (from all sectors) in a joint endeavor to share lessons learned and create a bank of long but not forgotten blog posts that deserve to see the light of day again.”  This actually is quite good for me, as I have a few posts which I really liked from the former incarnation of the blog, but never really got the publicity or promotion they deserved.  This post is courtesy of nominations by One Cent At A Time and Daily Money Shot.

1. Most Beautiful Post

I’m not the poetic type, but if I were going to talk about beauty in a post, I would have to refer to The Best Money Advice I Ever Received. In it, I was able to go back to my childhood and recount my passion for collecting sports cards and comics, as well as recall some good father-son advice I received from my pops.

2. Most Popular post

Hands down, the most traffic to a single post went to Organize Your Finances In Three Easy Steps, although a great amount of that traffic was referred by Free Money Finance.  Either way, traffic is traffic, especially from such a reputable source for a link.  This post is simply details a way to get household financial reporting and documents under control easily in only three steps (pretty obvious, huh?).

3. Most Controversial Post

This one was written not only to provide my person view, but to also cause a bit of a stir, considering the proliferation of cash-only personalities out the.  Unfortunately, I Love My Credit Cards: 5 Reasons Cash Sucks And Plastic Rocks didn’t really do that well in generating any controversy in the comments, but who knows, maybe after this it will!

4. My Most Helpful Post

This one, to me is a toss-up.  I think that both Interview Tips For the First-Time Job Seeker (Or Any Other For That Matter) and Don’t Let Yourself Become a Victim: A (Fairly) Comprehensive Guide to Protecting Your Identity contained unbiased, attitude-free, straight-forward information.  I also think this type of information and advice is the kind that can be useful for the foreseeable future, as opposed to some other advice articles that only apply to the here and now.

5.  A Post Whose Success Surprised Me

I have to say that since I don’t get many comments to my posts (yet), I was surprised when Owning A Home: Less Attractive Going Forward? started getting real responses.  Sure, there are the regular spammy comments that appear every now and again, but these were made by actual people who responded to points made in the post!  I was ecstatic to say the least.

6)  A Post I Feel Didn’t Get The Attention It Deserved

A big thing for me is being accountable and taking responsibility for your actions and the situation you are in.  In that vein, Credit is Not the Enemy, You Are! is a post that I think could have gotten much more attention if it was published today than it originally did.

7)   The Post That I Am Most Proud Of

This one really doesn’t have a direct correlation to finances or business.  Rather, Better Alternatives To Making Cash Donations is about being selfless and doing things for others for a change. Personal finance blogs are generally all about how you can improve your own circumstances, but I am definitely proud to be able to contribute an article about helping others improve their circumstances or doing something for others rather than yourself.

So, that does it for my participation in this little project.  I am supposed to nominate 5 others to follow suit, keep the ball rolling, and post an entry of their own, but at this late stage, I’m pretty sure most people who would be interested have already taken part (there is a list of nominated blogs already going on the Tripbase site, but it’s so long, and doesn’t look complete).  Guess that’s what happens when you’re a little late to the party!
